Lomas Athletic Club is an Argentine sports club from the Lomas de Zamora district of Greater Buenos Aires. One of Argentina's oldest clubs still in existence, Lomas is one of the four institutions that founded the "River Plate Rugby Championship" (current Unión Argentina de Rugby) in 1899,〔("Hechos históricos de la Unión" at UAR website )〕 The rugby union team plays at Torneo de la URBA, the top division of Argentine rugby. Lomas Athletic is also considered the first great football team of Argentina, having won six consecutive titles between 1893 and 1898〔 although the team disaffiliated from the Association in 1909 and the sport is no longer practised at the club. Lomas Athletic has also had a prevailing role in field hockey, with the female section being the most winning team in Argentina with 17 Metropolitano championships won, a record shared with Quilmes.
